Welcome to the Chop Shop!
This series will be free guitar tuition covering short licks in a rock/fusion type setting. Rather than concentrate on specific techniques I’ve decided to form these lessons out of phrases and patterns that come out naturally in my practice and writing. Influenced by a range of musicians, expect to see economy picking, hybrid picking, legato, tapping and extended chords.
This first lick is a 3-note per string idea based in E minor. I’m combining a few shapes from the CAGED system and following similar patterns with the combination of techniques. I’ve noted everything in the TAB so you can see exactly how I’m combining the pick, fingers and legato.
Note: My guitar is tuned down a half step to Eb for all the Chop Shop licks but all the theory notes will be from the perspective of standard tuning.
